As Wiley embarked on its most ambitious restructuring program ever, the company sought a partner that could take on production editing (PE) and provide services either onshore or offshore, depending on a specific journal’s requirements. To meet Wiley’s needs, Aptara recruited skilled production editors, both onshore and offshore, and assembled PE delivery management teams. Team leads were trained by Wiley in all project aspects and expectations. Aptara successfully transitioned 20 journals offshore during 2013; in 2014, an additional 86 journals were transitioned to both onshore and offshore locations. As a result, Wiley has drastically reduced internal costs, providing the company with a significant competitive edge in the journal publishing industry. More than 40 other journals are in the pipeline to be transitioned over the coming months.
