Oxford University Press and Aptara announce a partnership to process journal author licenses and payments for open access and other publication charges.

Falls Church, VA | February 25, 2022

Aptara has partnered with Oxford University Press (OUP) to provide a branded online platform to manage transformative agreements and collect various production and open access (OA) charges.

Aptara’s SciPris platform automates the calculation of various publishing charges using customer-specific business rules, provides a user-friendly payment gateway, and gives publishers insight through alerts and custom reports. SciPris provides the needed agility, flexibility, and self-service tools to experiment with new business models and react quickly to the ever-evolving global marketplace. Being able to adapt to each publisher’s unique workflows, peer review, and production systems and collection categories is critical, especially in this fast-changing OA landscape. This platform is now tightly integrated with Aptara’s end-to-end journal production solution for issue management, editorial, composition, and multi-channel content delivery.

Aptara’s SciPris platform automates licensing and publishing charges using specific business and funder rules to provide a user-friendly, intuitive licensing and payment gateway. SciPris provides self-service tools to the various parties involved in the publication process, from author, to funder, publisher, or paying institution to create a more seamless experience for all involved. Together, Aptara and OUP will use SciPris’ flexibility to respond to the changing business models across the publishing landscape.

Managing Director, Academic Division, Oxford University Press, David Clark, said, “Our collaboration with Aptara to employ SciPris helps Oxford University Press to make publishing easier and more straightforward for our authors and society partners while enabling us to better support academic institutions and funders in the rapidly evolving open access landscape.”

“We are excited to be partnering with OUP in providing a digital journey to streamline the processes within their Open Access publishing ecosystem,” said Samir Kakar, President of Aptara. “We look forward to collaborating with OUP on this strategic initiative.”
